Violent Delights (White Monarch #1) by Jessica Hawkins

Trust no one. Never draw a weapon unless you meant to kill. Loyalty didn’t guarantee loyalty, even to your own blood.

This book is literally EVERYTHING. One thing I can definitely say is that it’s one of my favorite reads in 2020 so far. The amount of angst between the two main characters and the perfect blend of drama, intensity and dark romance will leave you wanting more !

The plot

Enter Mexico ! Where there are more Cartel’s than you can count, one more deadly than the other. Natalia is living in this world, full of criminals and violence. Even though she is trying to live a safe and free life, two brother’s won’t let her. The de la Rosa Brother’s both dark and handsome, hold a grudge against each other and Natalia is the prize to hold. She is certain that she can trust Diego, but is that really the truth ? And why is Cristiano hell bent on seperating her from Diego and destroying her life ?

My thoughts

I don’t even know where to begin ! This story is sweet yet tragic, violently dark and intensely gripping. The way the author managed to suck me in, even though I’m no big fan of Mafia romances is insane.

Natalia is innocently sweet with undeniable strength. There were multiple situations, where I would have lost it completely but she held her ground and she faced her enemy. She is caught not only between two brother’s but in a life she doesn’t even want. Living a life, where your opinions don’t matter and you’re not heard is extremely disappointing and yet she stayed strong. I really enjoyed her as the main character and even though there were moments where she was so naive I wanted to slap her, she impressed me with her strength.

The de la Rosa Brother’s are like light and darkness. It’s hard to write this review spoiler free, but I really want you to jump into this book without too many thoughts. I want you to get completely sucked into the dark Cartel world, just like I did. Diego is Natalia’s boyfriend and long time friend, so she trusts him with all her heart. On the other hand we have Cristiano his elder brother, who once was an important member in Natalia’s Family, but things changed when one incident happened. After this incident, Cristiano was her personal enemy. Natalia has seen the best in Cristiano but also the worst and so she can’t really trust him. Or can she ?

While getting introduced to all the characters and reading further into the story, I knew whom I was trusting ! My heart was instantly rooting for one of the brother’s and I wanted,-no I needed, justice. Towards the end, I had an idea of what would happen, so I wasn’t really surprised when the drama finally played out in the end. However, even though I wasn’t surprised, my emotions were still all over the place and I felt the betrayal and anger ! For some readers the event was predictable ( I’m one of them ), but that didn’t really bother me, as it was perfectly delivered with a lot of emotion and a dreadful, violent note !

I am such a Fan of this series, that I immediately read book 2 after finishing this one ! It’s a story full of dreadful events and violence, dark romance and unpredictable characters. The author plays with your emotions and your mind, leaving you wanting more ! Full of angst, twists, complexity, darkness,-this mafia romance will shatter you !

  1. Great review! I am in love with this cover–it just screams bad ass! 😍 I have a feeling I’d know which brother I’d be rooting for in this series. It’s definitely sounding like a love triangle (right?) and I’m not usually a fan of those at all (I can’t take the angst) but my curiosity has been piqued. Is this a finished series already? I have a feeling that once I start I won’t stop until I finish the whole thing (so I’d rather wait until all the books are out before diving in — I’m greedy)! Haha

    1. Thanks ! Yeah and the story in itself IS bad ass 😀
It’s definitely a love triangle, especially the first book.(The second one, not so much )
I’m currently reading the second installment and let me tell you: It’s a good thing that all three books are out already, because there are major problems and twists and turns !
So, when you start you won’t be able to stop !
I’m happy I piqued your interest with my review ❤

  2. So glad you really enjoyed it! I can’t say that I enjoyed it as much as you did, but there’s something totally addictive about the series. I still need to read the last book. Hope you enjoy the next book. The story takes an interesting turn.
